Namibia has one of the highest youth unemployment rates globally, with employers citing severe skills shortages in tourism, logistics, manufacturing and energy. GAN Namibia partners with employers, training institutions, and policymakers to advocate for and create apprenticeships in key sectors as a solution to youth unemployment and economic inequality.

Key Achievements

  • Partnered with the Namibian Training Authority (NTA) to implement the National Apprenticeship Program, managing recruitment for employers.
  • Hosted soft skills training for apprentices in partnership with Youth Africa Namibia and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS).
  • Developed a Toolkit for Employers on work-readiness programs.
  • Conducted an assessment in partnership with Skills Initiative for Africa (SIFA) and ILO to identify national skills gaps in tourism, agriculture, and blue economy.
  • Hosted Namibia’s first National Apprenticeship Week in collaboration with NEF, NTA, and SIFA.
  • Launched Girls Day Namibia to promote careers for girls in male-dominated industries.
  • Participated in WorldSkills Africa in Swakopmund, promoting WBL and engaging policymakers and TVET experts.
