A national campaign uniting government, industry, and youth to champion apprenticeships and strengthen skills development across key economic sectors.
GAN Namibia launched the country’s first-ever National Apprenticeship Week, a milestone initiative designed to raise awareness about the value of apprenticeships for employers, training providers, and young people. Over four days, leaders from retail, agriculture, manufacturing, tourism, mining, and education came together to highlight the essential role apprenticeships play in preparing Namibia’s future workforce.
The launch event, held on November 8th 2021, featured participation from the Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, training, and Innovation, Dr. Raimo Naanda, who spoke of the importance of equipping apprentices with the skills needed for an increasingly diverse job market. Throughout the week, discussions explored the impact, successes, and challenges of apprenticeships, while youth advocates, including Miss Namibia 2021 Chelsi Shikongo, called for greater opportunities within creative industries. The week concluded with the Apprentice of the Year Competition, recognizing exceptional apprentices across multiple fields.
