Strengthening Work-Based Learning in Armenia: GAN Global Celebrates Apprenticeship Progress in Yerevan and Gyumri

16th February 2025

February 2025 marked an important milestone in GAN Global’s long-standing commitment to advancing quality apprenticeships in Armenia. As part of the final phase of a six‑year project supported by the City of Geneva, GAN Global travelled to Yerevan and Gyumri to recognize achievements, deepen partnerships, and witness firsthand the evolution of Armenia’s apprenticeship ecosystem.

Celebrating Excellence: Best Apprentices Awards in Gyumri

A highlight of the mission was the Best Apprentices Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Mayor of Gyumri, Armenia’s second‑largest city. The event honoured exceptional young talents across key sectors, including: Baking and Pastry-Making; Hospitality; and, Digital Skills

These awards not only celebrated individual achievement but also reflected the country’s growing capacity to prepare youth for meaningful employment through structured, high-quality work-based learning (WBL). For many finalists, the ceremony symbolized both recognition and motivation as they embark on their professional journeys.

A Transformative Hub: The House of Apprentices

During the visit, the GAN Global team toured the House of Apprentices (Maison des Apprentis), a flagship initiative launched in 2023 and implemented by GAN’s partner, the Miassine Foundation. The center stands out as a multi-generational space offering Career guidance and counselling; Training for trainers; Psychological support for vulnerable youth; and, Assistance for individuals impacted by conflict. This holistic approach ensures that apprentices receive not only skills training but also the emotional, social, and professional support needed to succeed. The House of Apprentices has quickly become a model for inclusive, community-rooted apprenticeship innovation in the region.

A New Legal Framework for the Future of Apprenticeships

Armenia’s adoption of a new apprenticeship law in 2024 marks a transformative step toward institutionalizing high-quality, sustainable WBL opportunities nationwide. This legislation, combined with local initiatives like the House of Apprentices, signals Armenia’s commitment to expanding opportunities for its youth—particularly those facing socio‑economic vulnerabilities.

Looking Ahead: A Stronger Ecosystem for Youth Employment

GAN Global’s mission to Armenia highlights the importance of long-term engagement, cross-sector collaboration, and local leadership in building resilient apprenticeship systems. What began six years ago as a pilot initiative has grown into a thriving ecosystem, enabling young people to gain the skills, confidence, and support they need to enter the workforce with dignity and purpose. We are proud to stand alongside partners in Armenia as the country charts a bold path toward inclusive economic development through quality apprenticeships.
