Training of Trainers for Youth Employment

Between 2018 and 2020, AHK and GAN Argentina jointly implemented a training-of-trainers program based on the AHK Dual Vocational Training model. The initiative aimed to promote dual training among GAN Argentina companies and to strengthen their capacities to train and integrate young people into technical roles through structured work-based learning.

The challenge

Companies face a growing shortage of qualified technical profiles, while young people encounter barriers to accessing their first formal job. This gap is reinforced by weak articulation between education and the productive sector, as well as by limited pedagogical and training capacities within companies. In response, AHK and GAN Argentina launched a joint initiative to promote the Dual Vocational Training approach and to prepare in-company trainers and tutors to support youth integration through work-based learning.

What we did

AHK and GAN Argentina jointly designed and implemented a training-of-trainers programme for GAN Argentina member companies, drawing on the AHK Dual Vocational Training model. More than 20 trainers per cohort (including company tutors, HR managers and educators) were trained through three intensive sessions structured into five modules.

The programme addressed the fundamentals of dual training, the design and planning of in-company training plans, mentoring and feedback practices, youth motivation, and the development of technical and transversal competences. The methodology combined practical case analysis, interactive sessions and a final written and practical examination, leading to certification endorsed by AHK.

Outcomes

The initiative strengthened companies’ capacities to design and implement structured work-based learning processes aligned with the AHK Dual Vocational Training model. It increased awareness and adoption of dual training among GAN Argentina companies and consolidated a network of trained in-company trainers capable of supporting and scaling similar initiatives within their organisations.

As a result, the programme contributed to improving youth employability pathways, addressing skills shortages in technical roles, and ensuring the sustainability of dual training initiatives through knowledge transfer and institutional strengthening.

My initial expectations focused on acquiring tools to deal with different situations that might arise. However, I ended up gaining a much broader understanding of how to organize training plans, support young people, and build shared guidance across departments. The course helped me see that much of the success of workplace-based learning depends on the relationship between the parties involved—and that young people can feel supported when those around them have the right tools to guide them.

I believe that what contributed most to my relationship with the young people was knowing that they could see that the person acting as their tutor had also received specific training to support them responsibly.
